My Assessment day is approaching.....
We get to dress a real life model and show off our gown in front of a panel of 3, talk about our inspiration behind our design, think 'Project Runway', and then we take her to the studio for a photo shoot... fun :)

I've almost completed my gown but first some retail therapy!

I'm loving this orange lipstick by Make Up Store in Citrus shimmer in Myre. I was on the hunt for the perfect shade of orange to match my gown, armed with a fabric swatch for good reference. I had every intention of buying the MAC lippy in Morange, and was bombarded by  make up artists from every makeup brand under the Myre roof, I even left the store with orange lips from the first counter at Mecca and 3 orange shades of nail polish on my finger nails. L'absolute Rouge #120 by Lancome was a runner up with its shimmer tones before finding the perfect match.  My fabric is a shot silk with Orange and Pink tones.  I chose My Precious Coral lip liner from the same brand to add a pink tone to the Citrus shimmer.  Of course I wasn't going to stop short of buying a nail-polish :)  Besides with an extra Item I received a free gift of 4 extra products, two eye shadows and a lip gloss and lip liner... was a win! win!

$3!!! Amazing! These vintage look earrings were a no brainer, they just screamed Audrey Hepburn... well not really, I think she preferred a more conservative adornment upon her lobes, but hey... these rock!  Again, I new what I needed, something black with gold and vintage inspired!

Shoes? Orange? Black? Patent? Peep toe?
I was hoping to find the perfect pair of orange stilettos with a pointed toe and classic tapered heel. Easy to find on line but with only days till Assessment day I had no time to risk on delivery times.  So on foot I went.  Argh... no such luck, what happened to all the orange shoes only a few short weeks ago?  I found a few but not quite right either in shade or style or price for that matter.  There was one pair for $50, right shade and style, price was good... but no size 8's... so off I go forced to reconsider the colour choice.  I even considered Pink, it may have worked nicely since the fabric of the sash/bow is both Orange & Pink but I think they may have taken focus away from the dress... I didn't want to risk it.  Safer to go black! Less is more as they say and the look needed to remain streamlined. It's enough with an orange lip and those earrings!

Look what I found... again from Myre...

For $29 in a black micro suede. Okay... so they don't have a pointed toe, more almond shaped but for this price I'm willing to make sacrifices.  I love the Mary Jane look, they are the perfect height heel and with a platform... besides for this price I could choose to cover them in the same orange fabric and not feel bad about covering them in glue!  I will ponder on that idea for a tad longer just to be sure.

Okay so here I am :) Not the best pic but it will do.  I am dressed in guess what.... Orange & Black! I originally intended to wear the dress for my Assessment last year, which never happened, blame it on my arthritis!  I bought it through ASOS last and have only worn it once... to the 'I Don't Know How She Does It' premier at Crown with no other than Sarah Jessica Parker... OMG! I was so excited, I am lucky enough I have a friend in the movie business and scored a ticket... thanks Clint!

Anyway...
So since I was out shopping to accessorize my gown, I needed inspiration and thought why not wear some. I got quite a few compliments from sales people... inspiration received!

Now since I'm all 'oranged' out I was toying with the idea of designing a different dress to wear for my assessment and came up with this...

I was so inspired by this design I couldn't wait to get started...

Well that was two weeks ago and I have been working on my gown which is of course my #1 priority.  I wanted to do it in Velvet also but I don't think I have enough left over and, as a student, can't really afford more.  So this is where I left it, in calico form, begging me to come back and finish it.
